Read about this? Sorry, I cant be arsed posting a link. Bloke was on an 'abuse' chatroom and filmed his own hanging live. Much to the shock og the 100 or so chatroom attendees. I don't have a take on it as such - but I've never heard of chatrooms where apparently you go and slag each other off - anyone know about them?

Amazing. We have a world of information at our fingertips, and what happens? We have chatrooms where we can abuse each other.
Yep, I was stunned to read this story, apparently while some users who were on line at the time tried to talk him out of it, others were egging him on!!!! As for people going on line to verbally abuse each other, you only have to look around AB sometimes to see that there is a market for it!
"I've never heard of chatrooms where apparently you go and slag each other off "

It's obvious you're a newbie round these 'ere parts... ;-)
Definitely a very odd story. I daresay that if you're in an 'abuse' room and say you're going to kill yourself then everyone is going to abuse you and tell you to do it. The big problem with any form of written communication is that it is very hard to infer the tone from the content if there isn't much detail. If I write the line "I'm going to kill myself", in this passage, can you tell whether I'm joking or serious? I bet a lot of people thought he was joking and egged on 'the joke'.

It's a tragic story though, one that I felt was bound to happen one day.
thats just weird

I know that chatrooms and websited do sometimes descend into name-calling and abuse etc. - but I can't figure out why you'd deliberatley go along somewhere to hurl abuse at each other? Any ideas?
Beria, most of us have to be restrained and careful what we say most of the time so that we don't upset the boss, work colleagues, partner etc. So my theory is that, in anonymous situations like the chatrooms you are talking about, people can let off steam without any repercussions.

I think it's the same on the road - people let their anger and aggression take over because it's relatively anonymous. If they behaved the same when not in their cars they would risk getting punched!
Nooooooooooooooooooooo.

I think you've misunderstood. It was a chatroom for people who self-harm. Usually people suffering from clinical depression and other related mental health problems.

The 'abuse' refers to what they do to themselves. Not what they say to others in the chatroom.
I think an abuse room is a great idea as it should keep trolls away from other discussion sites.
I don't know of any such sites but maybe this chatroom was known to be crowded with abusive users all the time and became an 'insult' chatroom as a result?

moron.
And another succinct but objectionable answer from scuzzball.
I think you are trying for ' controversial ' but are falling way short.
Must try harder.
This room should be shut down and the people who ran it should be locked up.
