Phantom toothache

My wife had a tooth completely removed 4 days ago, but she is still getting bad toothache where the tooth was removed, Why is this? could the gum be infected?.

It could be all the roots werent taken out or its another tooth close by.

She could have bone shards coming through the gum, which is painful. I wouldn't technically recommend it, but you can howk them out with a pair of bathroom tweezers if you have the stomach for it.

I have had all my top teeth removed, ready for implants, I have 14 "plugs" in the gums ready to attach the new teeth, but you have to wait 6 months for the next process, I am now in month 4 but I often get toothache or twinges, luckily it doesnt last for long
If I were your wife I would go straight back to the dentist and make sure everything is okay if the pain continues..
