palm tree height

How do I keep my palm tree from growing any taller than it is now? It's about 10', and it's twin brother right next to it got to be 45', which I've had removed. Both palms were planted at the same time. Can I cut the new top fronds maybe?

What sort are they? Cutting the new fronds off won't do any good whatever sort they are BTW where are you?

Near as I can figure, some sort of Brahea, by looking at the fronds. Both were planted at the same time, about 9 years ago. Spaced about 9 ft apart. One grew to 35-40', the other is still 10'. I like the small one to remain small. I am in Redlands, California. This is mostly a desert Climate, about 45 miles west of Palm Springs. The Palms are plain Janes, landscapers for new developments have no interest in these types. Thanks, Liz

I asked where you are because while here in Britain we have a palm that will reach that height they take a very long time I don't think there is much you can do, cutting off the new fronds will eventually kill it. It's possible that cutting it back to ground level may produce a new stem but I'm not sure (ie I simply don't know). It might be worth a try if it gets to big, you will have nothing to lose
