Voluntary Eye Shaking

I have the ability (along with 2 other people I know) to shake my eyes at will (they appear to be vibrating and when I do it everything goes blurry). Does anyone know what the technical term for this is and why so few can do it?

I can do this too, as my party piece, as can my brothers and sister (my daughter can just about do it too) i have only found one other person outside my family that can do it. I once did it to an optician and asked what it was, he said it was similar to a disorder miners get as it is too dark to actually focus on something down a mine and their eyes start to dart about looking for light. No miners in our family. He didn't give it a name but said don't do it as it could be damaging.

It is called "voluntary nystagmus", and it affects 8% of the population
