Can anyone explain the Golf advert with the 'Great Pretender' song on it? It just doesn't make sense to me!

my intepretation is this...

the 1st guy is a bit flash, with his tightly cut suit and shiny tie, he seems to be the life and soul of the office, but as soon as no one is watching him, he is actually quite sad (eating a take away on his own for example). As he comes out of the office, and sees the 2nd guy, he realises the 2nd guy is everything he wants to be, well dressed etc, and he drives a golf (understated and classy), and he realises he will never be that, and he is the great pretender!!

It IS the same guy thats the whole point - he sees himself and thats really who he wants to be !!

oh rite, so is it like 'if he had a golf he wouldn't have to pretend'?? sorry, bit of a mental block with this one!

He sees that his life is just a pretence as he's lonely and a bit of a show off to try and be popular as he clearly isn't the guy he pretends to be. He sees what he could be like - understated, cool and respected in his alterego who drives the Golf.
