Leaving Talk Talk broadband
5 Answers
After never having been connected to Talk Talk broadband after 4 weeks of problems, I decided to cancel the contract. Talk Talk say I have to tell BT I'm going back to them and their engineers will come and 'change the line'. This will take 2 weeks. Only then will Talk Talk cancel and refund my modem cost. In the meantime I want to get the (cable) broadband & phone package with Virgin, who say they can do it now (I'll have a new phone no.). But BT are assuming I'm coming back to them (for the phone) - I need to cancel this but worried I may not get a full refund from Talk Talk, as BT may not take back their line, and even if they do will they charge me for the engineers coming out (as Virgin thinks may happen)? Has anyone had this experience?! Thanks.

Dont take this BS about needing to cease your line and it taking two weeks. Ofcom will come down on them like a ton of bricks if they fail to give you your code in the required time.
I was in a similar situation when I moved into this house. The previous owner had had Pipex Homecall installed so we decided to take over the account. After 5 weeks of them telling me random things about the ownership of the account, we ditched them. BT wanted 125 to switch the line back to them. So we went with NTL (now Virgin Media) as their phone service comes from their own line. All done and dusted in a week!
So, my advice is cancel Talk Talk and don't tell BT anything. You'll have 2 sockets in the house though. One for the redundant 'BT' line and the new Virgin one.

Thanks, but I HAVE told BT because otherwise Talk Talk say they can't cancel, and I want to make sure I get 2 modem refunds from them.... BT say it will be free to switch 'unless Talk Talk have damaged the BT wiring'. But I don't want to have to pay for BT's phone package. Feels like I'm stuck and one of them is going to screw me....
