When Do the Clocks going forward?

When do we put our clocks forward? IS it on Mother's Day. I know this years Mothers day is 18th March.

It depends on where you live.

If you live anywhere in the EU, then it is (strictly speaking) 0100 GMT on Sunday 25 March. So Brits and Portuguese put theirs forward at 1 am, French and Germans put theirs forward at 2 am and Finns and Greeks at 3 am.

Most people put them forward either just before bed or first thing on Sunday morning.
Just don't turn up at church an hour late! Priests and ministers have been known to take a dim view of this.


In USA/Canada it used to be first Sunday in April (April 1 this year) but I believe it's been changed this year. US or Canadian ABers might like to set us right on this one.

The start and end of summer time is the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October.

The last Sunday in March this year is March 25th. Therefore calendars which are giving the date as April 1st are wrong (or April Fool jokes!!)

The EU legislation is not new, "gravitate", it dates back to 1980. At that time all EU countries had some form of summertime but it started and ended on different dates. From 1980 the last Sunday in March was the start date for summertime in all EU countries.

Until 1996 all EU countries except the UK and Ireland ended their summertime at the end of September. From 1996 EU legislation brought the rest of the EU into line with the UK and Ireland - since then everyone has ended summertime on the last Sunday in October.

In the uk we change our clocks on the last sunday in March at 1am so saturday night before you go to bed

I came back from Spain yesterday and never realised until then that the Spaniards also put their clocks forward - I had always assumed it was us mad brits to make more light for the farmers??!! How many more countries alter their clocks?

Micky - you are completely wrong. The clocks went forward at 1am on SUNDAY 25th March not Saturday 24th.
