This morning we woke up by the smell of our poorly cat. Unfortunately he has a case of diorea. I gave him a worming tablet two days ago, could this be the result? Also I looked up the effects of worming tablets on google and yahoo answers gave an idea. But one of the answers was about the worming tablet being bought from a shop. They said that the cat will die if the worming tablets are from a shop rather than the vets. I got the tablets from sainsburys. I am now worried and paranoid. Not to sure if I should take Orwell to the vets or not. Please help.
Did you say the cat will die.?? Seems a litlle extreme. My last cats were extremely ill (some 20 years ago) after the worm tablet that my vet gave me. (had the runs for weeks after- it started the next day).
The vet denied the connection but I read since that those tablets were renowned for giving gastric problems and shouldn't be used for dogs and cats under 6 months.
I can't give a scientific answer but even though my vet says the tablets have improved now, I think it quite likely that your cat may be allergic to that particular variety,
If I were you I'd give it another day and see if he improves.
If you are really worried or if he's being sick as well I'd take him to the vet or at least give him a call.
I'd take him to the vets anyway, as he may become dehydrated, although I am sure you will fnd it is the other way round, the shop bought tablets tend to be not so strong/efficient as the vets ones. Did you weigh the cat and give him the correct dose for his weight/size?
I have never hear of worming tablets causing death in cats, unless you overdose them by a very large margin.
Hello,
My Mums cat is allergic to Doctor martins cat worming tablets. He used to be sick and it was always a funny colour. I dont think that you cat will die because they are not a vets brand. If that is the case, surely pet shops and supermarkets would not be allowed to sell them. I have been to the Blue cross before now to pick up worming tablets. So try not to worry to much, i would pop along to the vets anyway just to check.
Hope your cat is ok!
Melons :o)
Just to say that he is much better now, and that it was a touch of parinoia on my part. I think I am turning into my Gran. Thank you to everyone for your answers, you made me feel much more calmer. The folk are much nicer on Answer Bank than the Yahoo equivalent.
