Does no one have common sense anymore? It seems like it's easier to sue than take responsibility for your own mistakes. Don't get me wrong if someone is negligent then you should be recompensed however this beggers belief. I wonder who is paying the neighbours for their repairs

If she was on the roof then it was her own fault. Too much 'blame someone else' these days!

It's pathetic, she had no valid reason to be on the roof.She should be thankful that she is alive and paying for all the damage she caused.

I'll wait for the verdict before I start blustering. She will have been encouraged to take this step by seeing other seemingly stupid claims be successful, and by a solicitor too greedy to tell her how stupid her claim is.

Hopefully, she and her claim will both be laughed out of court.

Unfortunately, she's likely to win a payout as owners of property have a legal duty of care to people on their premises, whether invited or not.

However, if she does, I'd like to see her get charged with trespass and criminal damage.

Too ridiculous for words really. As Whickerman says, why isn't she being prosecuted for trespass and criminal damage?

Or is it sued? An old English teacher of mine always used to bang on about how all the signs that said 'Trespassers will be prosecuted' were all wrong, and should read 'Trespassers will be sued'.

Like many other stories in the news (I'm thinking most PC stories) this is only newsworthy because it's so preposterous. Of all the 1000's of cases of compensation occurring this week, which one makes it to the front page? The one that will have people spitting their coffee out over breakfast. I bet she doesn't get a penny, and primarily because I think it would open the floodgates for others.

Quite right, a victory in court would open the floodgate of claims from all the other people who've been dancing on their neighbours garage roof and fallen through the skylight.

Seriously though, you would expect the claim to be laughed out of court, but nothing would surprise me.

Actually right now, I'm dancing in my own living room on 10000 nails. It bloody hurts, but I'm sure someone out there will pay. Ouch.

For anyone still following this thread - the woman at the centre of this case had her claim flatly rejected by the court and has got nothing. I bet that won't be in the news though.

I stand corrected Pinky. I wonder how many people will not have known the outcome, but next time something like this comes up up they're going to not quite remember the facts of this case and say
"Do you remember when that woman won millions for falling off her roof?!"
