i want to re paint my doors and skirting boards with white gloss they already have white gloss on them do i just put gloss on top of gloss or do i have to undercoat them first
if the existing paintwork is in good condition ie no chips etc, then you can put gloss on gloss without undercoat, however you will need to sand the existing paintwork first otherwise the new paint will peel or flake off
May I suggest, as an alternative to gloss paint - Dulux Satinwood - gives a satin finish - sort of half way between gloss and matt.
Am going to paint over my gloss paint eventually as I think it is outdated.
As a decorator I ALWAYS undercoat after i've rubbed the paintwork down. You can use acrylic primer/undercoat, which dries in a couple of hours...even quicker if you put a fan heater on it. The result is much better than gloss on gloss. & it wont peel-off in a years time!
