I need to paint my hallway. The hallway is very long with high ceilings and does not get much natural light. It is currently painted terracota below a white dado rail and is painted cream above. We are just about to lay an oak cherry colourd laminate florr. I was thinking a light yellow below the dado rail with white above but didn't want it to look to balnd as it is a very long narrow hallway. Any ideas??

personally I would paint the whole lot - dado rail and all in a pale (but not too pale) and warm yellow. My hallway is like this, I love it and it looks great.
I agree. In fact I have just moved into a similar situation and I ripped the dado off. I used cream, but any pale colour will do. If its all one colour it will open up the space and brighten it too. You can add accents of stronger colours with accessories like picture frames (which match the colour of the floor) or plant stands.

If you do still like the top & bottom effect why not try the same colour with a darker shade at the bottom and lighter shade at the top! The shades should only slightly differ to give a nice tonal regression effect.
I also have a long hallway with high ceiling, to stop mine looking bland i used textured blown vinyl wallpaper to create some interest also clever use of mirrors / pictures helps alleviate the plainess, using blown vinyl means redecorating is easier than re wallpapering , i painted the wallpaper a magnolia shade (cant remember the exact shade) and did the woodwork white , result bright light hallway that dosent look bland and plain. Choose a heavy textured design otherwise the end result will look plain and uninteresting, hope this helps
Through the letterbox from outside would be a challenge.
do not paint any of it yellow. we had it yellow on the bottom half of the dado rail and cream on the top in our hallway before i really hated it! lookd dreadful. i suggest a pale cream on top and some fancy (slightly dark cream) wallpaper on the bottom whichis what we have now laura ashley wallpaper which has a slightly shinny affect look out for it. hope this helps!
