trinny, it all depends on the relationship and respect to the other.

i have known mrwarpig for 20 years. We split up for 8 years in the middle of this, I didn't hate him and he didn't hate me, it just wasn't working but we remained in contact (just once or twice a year). We are now engaged to be married and living extremely happily together, perhaps we are soul mates and just needed that time (long as it was) to realise it.

So in my case the answer is yes but that does not apply to everyone.

Never , unless you are desperate and cant get another partner.
Many desperate people find themselves in this situation and take second best rather than be sad and lonely.
I suppose given the choice a lonely person will go with anyone.

I loved the person more than she new but because she had been treated badly before,she didnt trust any man .

I have had experience regarding this experiment in life, and have found that problems increase exponentially if your existing partner is not expecting you to exit the existing relationship: it could prove to be extremely explosive...So, forget the "ex".

Stewey, perhaps, if that is the case it is better to shed all baggage sooner rather then later!

In saying that, what the heck do I know, it took me 20 yearS to get engaged!!!

sorry for belated response. Thank you all for replying. I am not desparate gadget man. Had feelings still for the ex. We met, and I dont think there is still any future there.

mrknowall, I thought my ex was dying to get back with me at the start, but he is still he same heartless selfish man he was. So I dont think I can be with him anymore. Wishing you lots of luck too xx

It depends on whether you deserved to be dumped in the first place! In most cases if you recognise that you may have been at fault then you have every chance of getting an Ex back.
