you must inform them of any convictions and points that you receive,if you dont and you have a accident, they will not pay out and you will be put on their register and in the future it might stop you getting car insurance.
Yes as Norman says it is down to you to inform them no one eles will, but if you don't and they find out you will be in big do do's
You've mentioned that you've been caught driving on a provisional - what you haven't mentioned is what action is being taken. Have you been banned? Given penalty points? 7 day producer? Court appearance? If you've been cautioned and not given any sort of court apperance, penalty points or driving ban - then no. No one, including you will need to inform your insurance company. Though as the above answers say - don't drive without insurance, it's not worth it. If you are facing a court appearance/ban/penalty points on a provisional - you will have to tell the insurance company what penalty code (e.g. SP30/SP50 are speeding offences). Yours will be a code that will tell the insurers you are being prosecuted for driving without a driving license, insurance (it will be invalidated because you're not a qualified driver). They will subsequently either load your premiums or cancel your insurance and update central databases. Sorry for the depressing news! Tell us a bit more detail of the after result- and maybe we can be a bit more specific!!

In response to Mr JP's questions...I was fined 60 and given 3 penallty points on my license, was also asked to produce my documents within 7 days at my nearest police station. currently waitng to have my provisional license returned to me.....
Who drove the car back home?? The police wouldnt have allowed you! Yes, you have to inform your insurance company and your premium will probably rise!
