hi all in ab land, had a bit of an accident with my external HDD, it fell of my desk onto carpeted floor from around 3 feet and now refuses to do anything it now just buzzes at me and the light goes off after about 30secs to a min but still buzzes, its a packard bell s&s 3500 400Gb with a segate baracuda sata drive inside

I'm sorry to say that the drive will not work anymore,
you could contact seagate and tell them the drive just stopped working they may give you a replacement at no cost to you.

It could just be the caddy, see if you can get hold of another one to test it. (don't know if sata has seperate caddy electronics though). Check on fleabay or dabs for caddies.
