I'm now 35 and will soon reach 36. I have played rugby since I was a child and have loved it. Over my senior years I have eaten and trained to bulk up and weigh in now at 18.5 stone (approx 118 kilos or 230 lbs). So I'm a big guy. However, although over the years I have trained and built myself up, I now want to train my body weight down. Can anyone provide advice or point me to a good website that provides advice on training down. I'd like to get to 15 stone. If I don't train down I fear I will remain around the 18.5 stone mark and just turn to flab which is now starting to happen as I do not train as hard as I used to. Advice is appreciated.
How about circuit training? I don't think any muscle would turn to flab, you just need to be carefull about you food intake i.e don't eating what maintains your present size.
Also, you must understand a bit to have built yourself up, why don't you apply the same principles but directed towards endurance not size. Pazel Tsatsouline does a good run of books and videos, he advocates strength, not size.
As a prop myself I think I can help here. First I'll dispel the myth that muscle turns to fat, it does not. Muscle can waste and fat % can be increased. This can happen if you stop training and keep eating as if you are training. The best , broad advice I was given is to cut your weight training program to half double your aerobic work and reduce calorific intake by 25%. Obviously your diet should be balanced and healthy, though that should go without saying.
