Cape Verde
Anybody been to Cape Verde for a Holiday? Did you stay in Sal? Which hotel? What was it like ? How was the weather? Is there anything to see or do outside the hotel? What time of the year did you go?

Friends of mine went and said the island is a third world country, complete poverty for most of the people. the all inclusive hotels are ok but the crime rate is very high outside (pickpocketing is a large portion of the islands income i suspect), the carribean is cheaper, safer, and normally better weather.
Whilst in the Navy we stopped in the Cape Verde islands for fuel whilst on passage from Barbados to Sierra Leone.
The islands are, in my humble opinion, a **** hole. The best place we found to eat was at the local petrol station....a shell garage no less.
They take euros, dollars, pounds...whatever you can offer them and the islands are reminiscent of other african countries.
At the time we were there thought the sahara winds were in full flow so you were lucky if you could see more than 200 yards ahead of you due to the massive sand storms, and everything had an orangy tint to it as thought it was a sepia photo which didn't aid it's appearence.
