Throat problems
12 Answers
My daughter has had a persistant sore throat for about 3 years now. She has little white smelly balls coming off her tonsils. Just recently she says it has become alot worse and at night it is dry and has a painful feeling even just to speak. She went twice to the doctors and was given antibiotics and also corsodyl mouth wash but neither worked. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks

The white balls are the infection coming out. My gp wouldnt refer me to anyone for treatment, just kept giving me antibiotics so in the end my parents paid privately for a tonsilectomy!! i have had no problems since!!
Hi Poolger,
I dont wish to alarm you, my brother had a problem with
his throat, his symptoms were very simlar to your
daughters, he was going to the doctors for months,
he to was given antibiotics on his first three visits,
but they had no affect at all, his symptoms just got worse,
after 8 months off going to the doc,s, and by this time
he could not sleep at night because of the discomfort
in this throat. The doc said it was all in his mind, so
he ask for a referal to see a private consultant,
2 weeks later his appontment came through, The
consultant examined my brother, he said that he could
not see anything wrong, but he said he would have my brother in hospital for a closer look because he did
not like the symptoms my brother had.so 4 days later
he was taken in to hospital, to cut a long story short
he found 2 small tumour.s behind his vocal cords,
anyway they turned out to be malignant, he had them removed. that was 14 yrs ago although he lost his
voice box, he is living a normal healthy life
Poolger can i ask you how old your daughter is,
remember G.PS ARE A JACK OF ALL TRADES
BUT A MASTER OF NONE.
FOR YOUR DAUGHTERS SYMPTOMS TO GO ON
FOR SO LONG NEEDS INVESTIGATION,
ODDS ON IT IS NOTHING SERIOUS, ESSPECIALY IF SHES YOUNG.
BUT IT IS WORTH PAYING PRIVATELY IF ONLY
FOR PEACE OF MIND.
IF YOU DO HAVE A PRIVATE CONSULTATION,
AND TREATMENT IS RECOMENDED, THEN STATE
THAT YOU WANT IT ON THE NHS, BECAUSE YOU HAVE HAD A PRIVATE CONSULTATION YOU WILL TREATED QUICKLY.

Thanks for all the answers, even the scary ones lol. My daughter is 22, she is going to go to our local health practice but this time to see a different GP so hopefully they will be more helpful. She says the pain is worse in the morning and also starts to get bad again about 6. She also says when she puts her tongue to the side of her throat she can feel a small lump and also a bigger one is visible, hopefully it will be nothing serious but for it to be going on for 3 years is worrying.
Hi Poolger,
Iam sure this a very worrying time for you and your daughter, you say you are going to see another GP please
insist that he gives your daughter a good examination.
But try not to worry to much your daughter is very young
and i am sure it will not be anything to serious.
But better to get her checked out properly, for both your
peace of minds.
all the best.
