If I'm on a salary working 28 hours a week, what should i expect to cover a colleagues holiday, where I will be working an extra 14 hours a week, does anyone know if I will be paid extra or will it come in the terms of the pro rata salary? Grateful of any replies. Many thanks
It depends what your contract says. Job sharers usually have to cover the other persons holidays and this is taken into account in the salary, they don't get paid extra.
If you are not a job sharer, then I would imagine you would get paid extra but you definately need to check your contract to see what it says about holidays.
You need to look in your Statement of Terms and Conditions (most people will know this as an Employment Contract � although it isn�t � but that�s another issue) for a reference to your working hours and overtime. Your working hours will tell you what you are normally expected to do for your salary. Overtime will tell you what you get for doing additional hours. It might say �no overtime will be paid� or it might tell you you�ll get �time� (which is the same rate you get for normal hours), or time and a half or double time.
As you are on a short week now (most working weeks are 35-40 hours) your terms might say time upto the normal working week hours and time and a half after that.
If you don�t have a document to refer to there is a good chance your employer is in breach of basic employment legislation. In which case you probably won�t get paid for extra hours and you should start job searching�..
