I am after buying a DVD recorder and can you record a sky channel, and can you watch another sky channel at the same time?

no, i think its like a video recorder where you have to watch the channel that you are recording. the sky box's can do that though, but thats a little more expensive,
sorry this answers not very organised, and i hope it helps,
Ben

thanks for that, thought so myself but needed to check before i bought one.
Another thing is with SKY+, you still have to watch the programme you recorded if you are transferring it to DVD.
No doubt future generations of SKY+ will have the feature of transferring programmes to DVD whilst you can watch another programme.
You could go multiroom and have the DVD recorder on the other SKY box.
