My Freeview box has lost power.

I was moving my TV out to hoover behind it and with it the Freeview and VCR.

When I moved it back in, I noticed that although theTV and VCR were still working the Freeview was not.

My first thought was to check the fuse in the plug for the Freeview box, but it doesn't have a standard fused plug. Instead it's got an adaptor which plugs into a socket in the back of the Freeview box marked "DC In (6V)".

What could be wrong? Is it the adaptor or the Freeview box itself which is at fault? How do I check which?

If I need a replacement adaptor where could I get one and what should I be looking for?

you can buy a transformer with multi votage out for vitually nothing these days, you just need to get one with a compatible connector. before buying anything double check all cables are connected and try plugging the transformer into a different plug socket
is it a bush freveiw box, i remember there is one model that theres problems with the power cable and basically loads of people have either got a new power cable or a totally new box.

Bob A Job,

I already tried that. There's no power going to the Freeview box.

KT84,

No - it's not a Bush model.

Is the fault more likely to be with the Freeview box or with the transformer/adaptor thing?
you can test the transformer by plugging it into the mains, connecting a torch bulb (or small motor from a toy etc) across its little output plug.
put one wire from the bulb to the 'ring' of the little plug and poke the other to the inner part. it is only 6v and extremely low current so nothing to worry about.

chances are the box is knackered - they heat up a fair bit in use, and drop like flies the cheapo ones.

Thanks, Romko.

Yes - the box WAS always very warm, and yes it was a cheap one.
