Does anyone know of a website or list which itemises car marques and models over the years - without going into too much detail e.g Ford - Capri

Have you looked at Wikipedia?

If you search for the company that you are interested in, it should bring up a list of the models that they have made.

If you go to Autotrader.co.uk you can select a make and then look at the drop down list of models from that manufactuer.

Might not be exactly what you were looking for but I hope this helps :-)
