dogs tail is canked, help!

i just bought my pedigree Glen of imaal terrier last week (paid a lot of money for it) the problem is that the dogs tail is canked. is there anything i can do to straighten it like an operation or something? also does this mean i cannot show it because of the cank?

I am assuming by the term 'cank' you are referring that is has a kink? Surely, the breeder would be keen to keep the line clean and therefore should have sold the dog without pedigree. Knowing how fussy judges can be at the higher levels of dog showing I would doubt it could be showed. Personally if the breeder wants to protect their reputation i would take the puppy back and ask for some sort of compensation.

I agree. I'm surprised they allowed it to be sold for showing.

From my understanding (in the UK anyway) all pedigree dogs should come with a certificate to prove its lineage.

There are some trading standards issues here ie was the dog sold warranted as showable but are you telling me that all you care about is the dogs tail and shows? because if you are then be ashamed of yourself

thanks lads ive been onto the breeder who will sort out some compensation. but woofgang what you on about? i was only curious about the tail because i paid a serious amount of money for the dog and i was not made aware of this by the breeder who is well respected in the kennell club. when i bought the dog i told the breeder that i might be showing him but wasnt exactly sure, which the breeder asured me that he came from excellent linage (ive even got the family history)

My dachsund also has kink in his tail, it looks bent or almost broken actually. the vet looked at it and said there goes his chance in a show.. so i guess not
