Mac or Pc?

I need to upgrade my laptop that i have had for 3 years and wondered if it was better to invest in a mac or a pc? Mainly used for my ipod and sufing the web.

If that is your main usage, get a Mac.

If you're willing to invest a bit more money in the machine, and probably end up with less issues and general stress when using it, then the Mac is the right decision.

A windows PC will be cheaper, and will do everything that you want (at least, what you list here), but won't be as nice in other ways.

Apple think that people may have a digital camcorder or other similar devices, and want to play with the output on their computer. So, they make all their computers capable of doing these tasks fairly well, meaning that even their cheapest computers are fairly well-speced, but it also means they're more expensive than lots of the cheaper Windows computers that are on sale now. The difference is that these cheaper ones don't have the specifications, and while are probably capable of running similar software, they won't do it as easily.

A Macbook sounds great for you though, in my opinion.

for using the internet or uploading songs for your ipod then i would say invest in a mac!!! :D

I also might have the odd word doc to do - can this be done on a mac? Other than that it will be heavily used for internet and music.
What spec should i be looking for? I don't want to spend money to disciver it has gone out of date quite quickly... this happened with my current laptop.

You won't get that with a Mac. They're high enough spec already.

As for the Word documents, yes you have two main options. Either buy Microsoft Office for the Mac, or get OpenOffice (called NeoOffice on the mac). OpenOffice is also available on Windows too -- it's a brilliant Microsoft Office replacement that's compatible with Microsoft Office (so you can share files with Windows users), and it's totally free. I use NeoOffice with no problems.

If you want a larger screen and still want a laptop, then the MacBook Pro is your only choice. But the Macbook will do everything you want, and the screen size should be fine. My advice is that if you live near an Apple Store, go and try one out there.

I'd go for the mid-range Macbook. The extra RAM and DVD burner will be worth it.
