Colitis

My 4 year old Labrador developed colitis , it was very alarming to see him passing blood , but it passed(!) in 24 hours , does anyone know why this may have happened and is it something that will keep recurring ? Thanks

Hi Arty,
we have a nine year old goldie who has had colitis for the last 5 or 6 years. We feed him on a "sensitive" dried food, give him soya milk a couple of times a day (the fibre in it is thought to help with colitis) and no other treats apart from around 5 or 6 "Shapes" dog biscuits per day.
Despite this caution, his colitis still flares up several times a year, which means he gets starved for 24 hours and then fed rice and scrambled eggs for a day or so.
Good luck, but from my experience it is something that will keep recurring.
