my rottie is just over a year old. he is really soft and playful and we never have any problems letting him play with kids or other animals. the only issue is that when i leave the house sometimes, not all the time, he will find something of mine and chew it. it isnt very often he does this, but every time he does it its with my belongings. is this just a coincidence or do you think he is doing it on purpose?
he isnt a naughty dog so im confused!

Rotties have a strong moral code, they're different to other dogs. You should make sure that he doesn't have the opportunity to destroy anything though. I had a rottie puppy a few years ago and he chewed a shoe of mine. mr thugulike was buying a pair of very expensive new shoes and he told the shop assistant that the puppy had chewed my shoe in a very smirky way. When we got home he left his shoes on the floor and the puppy put his teeth into them and they had to be returned to the factory for refurbishment. The shop assistant reminded my husband of his remark about my shoe. Ha ha ha. He will grow out of it if you ignore it.
It is because anything with your smell on it reminds him of you. Make sure he is confined to an area (one room, or a hallway) where he cannot chew anything other than what you have given him to chew, i.e bones, pigs ears, a treatball stuffed with treats, a kong stuffed with peanut butter or anything else he likes. Make sure he cannot chew any electrical wires or telephone cables. Also make sure he has had a good walk before you leave him so he will want to sleep while you are out. You could leave him with the doggy equivalent of a comfort blanket, i.e.
or old sock, and rub your scent on it. He is still a baby in Rottie terms, so don't be cross with him, be cross with yourself for leaving stuff where he can get it!
