my pictures

When I double click a picture, in My Picture folder on my computer, i do not get an image. i do get the picture coded into script e.g. ( ���� JFIF ` ` �� ,Photoshop 3.0 8BIM P
Picasa 2.6 �� C )

Can I turn this into an image?
ps I can view the image if I click ` see as slideshow`

Is it possible you have inadvertently set Explorer to open the file with a text editor such as notepad?
If so, right click on the file and click open with and set it to open with a picture viewer or editor such as Windows Pictur and Fax Viewer.

Thanks for your help.
Your suggestion works if I choose e.gWindows Picture, but only if I do it each and every time for all images. The images then revert to code.

You need to check the little box that says 'always use this program to open this type of file'

Right click
Open With...
Choose Program
Choose your program and check the box as said above
OK

Check the type of file it is... .jpg perhaps.

Then in My Computer goto tools->folder options (or somewhere like that, sorry can't check properly here), and click the 'file types' tab. Find the .jpg entry, and it'll tell you the default program it uses for opening jpg files. Change it to picassa.

I am very pleased to say that you have solved my problem.
The problem has been with me for months and has been close to dementing me. Thanks everyone I can now stop chewing my arm off.
