80's show - Theme was Holding out for a Hero

Can anyone remember a TV show from the 80's whose theme tune was Holding out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler? I was quite young so can't remember it properly but think it was a cop-type show. I was in love with the leading guy, got a feeling he was called Mac or something. Anyone know the name of the TV show? :)

i do!!! the bloke in it was really handsome but he got accidently killed on set when he was messing about with a gun and held it to his head. It should have had blanks in but unfortunately for him, it didn't. I think they carried it on with someone else but can't quite remember. It was a great series though.
