Car Insurance covered on houseohld insurance?
4 Answers
I have a nice car and am planning a trip abroad for a period of time. I have declared the car SORN with the DVLA, and have the car locked in the garage. My friend is going to house sit for me and wondered if I could get the car covered for accidental damage and theft on my household insurance. It won't be used? any help would be appreciated.

This suits me - the car is in there with its own insurance and everything is of low value.
You should read your policy carefully and telephone the insurance company if you are still not sure.

You would not beable to cover you car under you household insurance even though you only require AD & Theft. You will need to speak to your motor insurers to see if you can reduce the cover to what most Insurers refer to as 'Laid Up Cover' (usually this then covers you for Fire & Theft, or AD Fire & Theft depending on who you are insured with). Not all insurers offer this cover though, but is well worth enquiring about as it may save abit of money!
