skin problems

I have a male whippet , he has a very red ity rash(i think) on his tummy, chin and he bites his paws quite alot, the skin seems to be worse in the places he has fine hair. I have tried steroids fom the vet, changing his food, blood tablets and cream but to no avail, it looks sore and he is always scratching, can anyone help with this please...

One of my terriers was prone to a similar condition and we went down the same route with the Vet, he reckoned it was a pollen allergy. I was told by a friend to try sulphur tablets. I got the little homeopathic pillules in a dispenser from a health food shop, and gave him the child dose to start with. After a few days the redness went away, then his itching lessened, after a week or two new hair growth! I went back to the Vet and told him what I'd given him, he said old fashioned method - sulphur cools the blood, it works, so do it. Each Spring I started him on the tablets before the itching started and it did the trick. Doesn't work with all dogs though, my other terrier itches in Summer, sulphur reduces the redness & heat in his skin but doesn't stop him itching. It's definately worth a try and much cheaper than Vets fees. Hope it helps him, good luck.

Hi i had a dog that had a skin condition, i asked the vet to do a skin biopsey ( a small plug of skin taken - under anaesthetic) they take several fo these and test them they can then tell you best treatment. I had spent lots of money on tablets and creams and steriods etc and all that was needed was 10 days on antibiotics and this had been going on for over a year. All sorted and never returned again

It might be sarcoptic mange which is easily cured by putting Stronghold on the back of his neck every 2 weeks for about 6 weeks.
