Under Active Thyroid
4 Answers
Hi,
I was diagnosed a year and a half ago with an underactive thyroid. I was given 25 mg of thyroxine to begin with, but that never worked so my doc has been putting it up regularly since then. I am now on 200 mg, but i still don't feel any better!! I am only 26 but I sometimes feel like I'm 90(no offence to any active 90yr olds lol) I just wondered if there was any one else out there who hasd the same problem? My doc says that it can take up to 3 yrs to get the right balance of meds to start feeling any better. I tried the tyroid website, but it would be nice to hear other peoples stories where i can ask questions, if you get what i mean?
ANY advice or tips you can give me would be really appreciated cos I sometimes feel like my family don't really understand, let alone my doc!
Cheers in advance x :)

I started on 20mg and went up to 50 but now my blood tests show I have stabilised and dont need it increased. I am a little surprised to hear that it can take 3 years to sort out! But then I guess it depends on how long you had been poorly before it was diagnosed. I will hunt around and see if I can find any info for you. : )
Hi babyphantom - I am on 125mcg of thyroxine a day.
I am 48, I take a supplement of A-Z multivitamins + minerals & a vitamin B12 tablet. I was told many years ago that it takes around a year plus to work efficiently in the system . It may be that you haven't yet had long enough on the 200mcg increase?
