wireless internet connecting probelms

hello
just swopped my laptop onto windows vista and my wireless interent last night was all wokring as before but then today i cant get it to work so i disconnectd my netgear wireless modem and re installed everything again and still nothing will work on my laptop it shows the wireless device but says i cant connect to it because the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirmnets of the network
how can i get it workign again

because i got a free upgrade thing so why not and its better just wish this stupid intenet would work have u got any idea ?

A brief read of this forum shows it is a BAD IDEA to upgrade any PC from XP to Vista.

Just because Microsoft are shouting about it does NOT make it a good thing to do.

Many drivers are not available for Vista, many old applicaitons do not run under Vista, there are still LOADS of bugs in Vista.

Microsoft shipped it before it was ready and to teach them a lesson we should all boycott it.

Search AB for "Vista" to see the tales of woe.

Have you tried restoring your router / modem to factory default?

This is usually done by holding down a recessed button for 10 seconds.

I dont think seaching on AB is the right thing to do to make a decision about upgrading to Vista as 99% of people lack basic PC skills and come here for advice.

Vista has many new features that XP has not got. If their is a business case for the upgrade then its justified. Many people have yet to understand Vistas features and simply jump on the bandwagon saying is no good. Each person has to plan and research an upgrade so that they can make an informed educated decision.

Yes Vista has its issues and yes the upgrade advisor is not fantasic but most upgrades are not researched and planned and so its almost guaranteed to cause issues. Especially since its in its infancy.

Blame Microsoft for sure. But also blame the many device manufacturers who have been lazy and not developed drivers for their devices.

Was you wireless router have security enabled before you reset it? The wireless connection on the laptop might still have the old security settings.

Interesting points, abranei, but most of the adverse comments about Vista on here are by IT professionals , like VHG and me, who have evaluated VIsta in the course of our work and come to the conclusion that the few (somewhat dubious) advantages of Vista are easily outweighed by it's numerous and all to obvious disadvantages in the areas of useability, reliability, cost and hardware requirements.

rojash you've just reiterated my point about business case and justification.

Even IT pro's jump in without thinking and hit problems. Often the fast pace of homelife and business means short cuts are made.

I'm sure if you were contracted to upgrade the PC's and laptops by AB members you would have identified the issues and only allows the upgrades that will readily take Vista with little or no issues.

Looking at this particular thread you didnt gather much information about Christy053 issues and made a premature comment about Vista, when the router could be the cause.

Searching Vista then will therefore show this thread as a negative hit against Vista when it many not be just.

rojash - dont think I'm advocating Vista as I dont advise my clients adopting new OS or software until it has had time to mature and allow the industry to catch up unless there is clear business justification for it. I do however have issue blanketing a technology with a negative comment just because business case hasnt be just for you and the clients you work with. It certainly doesnt mean that in our wide diverse planet that is not just for others.

I think Christy053's reply to me sums it up. He upgraded because "it's free and better". But he has no evidence to back up the latter point, except the claims of MS. Well, they are hardly going to say otherwise are they?

I don't think it's up to us professionals to make case against Vista, it's up to MS and/or Vista itself to make a case in favour - and that just hasn't happened. So whether the router can be sorted or not is neither here no there - without the change to Vista, the problem wouldn't have arisen, and as there is no clear case for the change to Vista, the problem is entirely unnecessary.

In many other postings, I, VHG and others have described explicitly the disadvantages. I have yet to be persuaded that (unless you count see-through borders round windows) there are any TRUE adavantages.

I agree if you take Vista on its OS face value and compare to XP its not worth the upgrade. How ever this is not the only value proposition. Vista has deeply ingrained developer technologies that will provide businesses of all kinds to create and use the next generation of applications that will provide next generation features currently not available through the following technologies .NET 3.0, Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Workflow Foundation.

Recapping my debate: It was about making blanket remarks that Vista is a bad idea. I'm not discrediting other threads just this one
