Following my 'connected houses' question, is it possible for any connected houses to have a common pipe or wire crossing from one house to the next?

I have seen wires on one house running to the next but not inside, which I believe were to allow access to a point underground away from the original house. I would only imagine a pipe could cross as there was no other way to reach a main drain or similar directly. Does this win the obscure question of October/2005?!

I suspect the answer would probably be such things don't exist, but I may do better asking a builder. I may have another go sooner or later though, but didn't think questions here ever expired, only gathered more dust.
