The High Chaparral
7 Answers
Sorry to put this question here, but I can't find a television topic.
Does anyone know if the tv programme The High Chaparral was ever known as "The Green Chaparral"?
It was referred to as this in a Diagnosis Murder episode, when Henry Darrow (Manolito) was guest starring.
Thanks
Lizzie

I have seen this episode and the reference to The Green Chapparel passed me by.My guess is that the Diagnosis Murder team wanted to reference The High Chapparel having cast Henry Darrow as an actor in famous TV western series, but couldn't get clearance to use the series name or character name, hence the changes. The High Chapparel was produced by NBC while Diagnosis Murder was produced by Fred Silverman Productions and first aired on CBs.
If you want to research it further there are some good sites for TV westerns and IMDb should have something listed.

If you regularly watch 'Diagnosis Murder' you'll see that Dick Van Dyke does this sort of thing all the time; gets as close to a real programme as he can without being sued. In fact in one episode he actually had a couple of the stars of the original 'Mission Impossible' and called them by their series names. I think, being one of the 'grand masters' of Hollywood they allow him to get away with all sorts - because you'll notice he's never personal or spiteful or cruel.
