Making an impression at a BBQ

If you attended a BBQ where the guests had to bring some uncooked food with them, what would be really impressive?
I am thinking some venison steaks and John Dory fillets. But not sure if these will BBQ well.
Any ideas?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.hi joe, methinks john dory such a delicate fish, myself i wouldnt barby it, as it would probably fall apart, venison steaks maybe be ok, but it is as aquired taste, what about a whole sea bass seasoned well, add some lemon,spring onions, and your fav herbs, maybe a dash of white wine, maybe dill be sparse though,or coriander is fantastic, wrapped in a thick foil parcel with a pleat in the middle to let it steam, sounds wonderful getting hungry
Venison steaks aren't a great BBQ meat as being very lean they can dry out very quickly. Depending on how you're fixed for a good fishmonger, whole salmon in foil with lemon and dill is good. In fact anything fish or fruit in foil is good, you prep it at home and turn up with it all ready to go on the grill in little (or big) parcels and Bob's your uncle. As a variation on BBW's bananas, put each split banana on a length of foil at least 3 times as long as said 'nana, add about a tablespoon of brown sugar (muscovado for preference) and then a slug of dark rum, pull the foil together so that you have one long seam along the top and then bend the ends upwards so that they meet in the middle and you have a sort of basket handled foil parcel. 5 - 10 mins (depending on how hot the barbie) and you have delicious desserts.
