I'm refurbishing a commemorative bench, the brass plaque was very tarnished and the engraved lettering, which was in white, is now difficult to read. Does anyone know if I can whiten this myself? Thanks

Hi Wired,

If the lettering has been engraved on, fill the engraved lettering with white paint or spray with white paint, then wipe off the excess paint from the sign. Polish the sign, and give it a coat of varnish to protect it.

This should work if the engraving is deep enough.

Thanks CSG, wondered if that may work but wasn't confident enough to try it.I'll go and try it now.
Thoroughly wash it in detergent first, there is probably traces of polish on it that will cause the paint to peel off!!
