Jury Service

Hi everyone, I know this is a stupid thing to worry about, but ive been called for Jury Service at the Old Bailey. My friends are telling me that I will get either a murder, rape or something else like that. Can anyone confirm for me that this is true. I know I shouldnt be so silly, and its our duty and all that but im really worried.

It could just as well be a tax embezzlement, corporate fraud, death by dangerous driving, high value theft, peopl etrafficking, drug dealing, robbery, etc etc etc.

Why are you worried? It just shows you are a citizen of good standing who is on the electoral register.

Honestly, it is nothing to worry about. Just a bit boring sometimes.

I have sat twice on jury service (local) however. One was a conspiracy to defraud a building society and the other a simple handling charge over some commercial lawnmowers. Yawnnnnnnn I wanted a murder!!!!!

It doesn't actually show you are a good citizen it just means you haven't been to prison!!

I have done it, no problem, I was in court for a week on jury service, very interesting, 3 guys robbed a jeweller, they all got sent down!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much - look on it as very good life experience - it can be extremely interesting. If you have any doubts or questions - contact the telephone number on the letter you have received and/or speak to someone at the court - they will be able to put your mind at rest.

As a side note you can actually be called to do Jury service if you have been to prison. It all depends on the offence.

This is not true Joe the lion, anybody can be on jury service, house burglars, car thieves, fraudsters, etc. providing you haven't been convicted within the last seven years you can be a juror, unless it was a life sentence for something like murder in which case you can never be on jury service
