My son and his partner recently had a baby boy which had quite a lot of dark hair at birth. Both him and his partner were fair until their early teens -we had expected the baby to have fair or even sandy/gingerish hair. Is this a normal occurence?

Both my children were born with dark brown hair, which is now blonde. Their hair will probably darken as they get older . Both my OH & I had dark hair when born, blonde when young and dark brown again when teenagers. Now it's starting to turn grey ;-)

It depends on family genetics.
my sons hair was jet black for the first couple of weeks! my wife 8is blonde and i am mousy.

my sons hair is now as blonde as a blonde thing!

Thanks both Lily_b and rugeleyboy for the reassurance.
does it matter what colour his hair is?
Hey ruge :o)

I was born with jet black hair..it all fell out eventually and grew back blonde.

The hair colour you are born with isn't always the colour you will end up with, Westwoodho. My ex husband is the only ginger haired child in about 4 generations. His parents were both dark haired!
My friend and her husband both have brown hair and brown eyes yet both their children (now in their late teens) have blond hair and blue eyes!
