I have a Rover 200 1.6 Coupe N Reg, I know but it's cheap!! Anyhow, water needed topping up about every 100 or so miles with no obvious signs of a leak, last week big problem lots of blue smoke (nearly chocked 2 pensioners to death!!) I thought it was the head gasket, removed cylinder head today and unfortunately it looks fine, however lots of oil has dripped onto the air filter so assume this has been pumped through the inlet manifold which also contains lots of oil (oil was milky brown sludge so water has mixed at some point), any ideas what could cause this, crank case pressure build up perhaps if so why ?, any information greatly recieved thanks.
head gasket may look ok but its not always easy to see where the're blown. Water is obviously getting into the oil and it sounds like the breathing system is also blocked. If its not the breathing thats blocked it can only be blow by past the rings, could be terminal
Thats great, many thanks. I will assemble the top end, give it a good clean and check all hosing, otherwise it looks like the knackers yard for a new engine.

water in oil definitely bad sign -could be cracked head or even engine block.

Look on the bright side - it could have been a decent car ,instead of the model it is !
