When should a Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec petrol (02 reg) cam belt be changed? Ford tell me it's 100,000 miles or 10 years, however, they told me my Fiesta was the same, when it was actually 50,000 miles or 5 years in the book. Just want to be sure...

If you want to be safe I would change the cambelt and rollers at 50-60 thousand miles. My Mondeo handbook said 100,000 miles too, but when I had the belt etc changed at 60,000 the belt was very slack on the rollers even though its condition was good. It could easily have slipped off the rollers with catastrophic results. I was just in time. Better safe than sorry.

I paid a competent mechanic 150. Main dealers charge a bit more !!

Thanks, i found a figure...5 years or 80,000 miles. Ford seem to forget to tell me that Zetec engines need their cam belt changing sooner than Zetec-E engines. One little letter makes so much difference!...
