Can you clarify - is the car to be insured and driven by the owner as usual, with the 17 year old as an added driver for weekends only?

Or is this the teenager's car, not driven by anybody else, and with no other insurance?
Question Author
The car is insured and driven by the owner (My dad) his insurer wont insure me cause its an over 50 insurance company! My dad wants to insure me for a weekend so i can drive down and see my mum whos ill. Cheers.
The problem here is there would then be two insurance policies for the same car. If it were stolen at a weekend when you were driving, which insurance company would be responsible for paying out?

I suggest you go to a local insurance broker to discuss your options.
Hey There

I worked in the insurance industry and we frequently got asked this question. Basically, the answer is no insurance company will cover this - it would be classed as dual insurance (i.e 2 policies on the same vehicle), which isn't allowed, and would effectively invalidate BOTH policies. Hope this helps.
Hi,
Following on from libellules note, the only option would be for your father to cancel his existing motor policy and to seek a new policy with an insurer who would be prepared to insure you as a named driver on the vehicle. Other than that there's not much else you will beable to do as no insurance company will insure you to drive the vehicle if there is already another insurance policy in force (dual insurance).
