From LA you could drive south to San Diego and east to the Colorado River, Yuma, Arizona. From there, north along the river to Laughlin, Nevada or Bullhead City, Arizona. Ther you can split and go into Nevada and on to Vegas. Or you can go to Kingman, Arizona and on to Vegas, a tad more scenic, in my opinion.
But, if time is of no matter, head from LA toward Carson City Nevada and Reno. Then drop down to Vegas from the Northwest.
I would call the second optin more scenic but I like desolate Desert and would chose the Colorado River Route.

I have driven to Las Vegas from LA and also from Phoenix. Direct drive from LA is dreadful, boring, hot & very unscenic and I seem to remember it takes about 7 hours (there is a speed limit). Drive from Phoenix is marginally better but not much. Better to Fly - get there quick & easy. The most scenic drive in California is north along Big Sur & then on to Carmel, Monterey, 17 mile drive & finally San Francisco.
