I do not have a credit card.
How can I book car hire in Spain without one. All the firms seem to insist on a credit card payment and not accept cash or debit cards

As no one else has answered I will put in my comments.

Hire car companies like credit cards for a number of reasons.

The main one is that if you return the car late, or with no petrol, or with damage, or maybe with a speeding ticket they can charge it to your card even after you have returned the car.

If you have paid on debit card, or with cash, this is not easy for them to do.
My mum paid for car hire using her debit card. She is going to Alicante. Try looking on http://www.travelsupermarket.com
My daughter works for a rent-a-car in Ibiza, and they will NOT accept anything other than credit cards.

Hi eash
Can you tell me who your mother used?
Recently in Majorca with Thomsons they tried this and there is no reason for it. we walked into local village and got a car no problem for the amount advertised no hidden extras loads cheaper
Get a car when you get there. It will be loads cheaper and usually if you're paying by cash they will only want your hotel, room number and your passport which they will photocopy.

Thanks Revandfunk
try a prepaid cash card, they carry the visa sign
Sorry only just looked back at this question. My mum went with http://www.economycarhire.com.
Just looked at that link and my daughter's company is on it - Hiper - and they definitely won't lease a car without a Credit Card.
