Am I being silly?

I have always tried to live by the phrase "I'd rather be at the bottom of the right ladder, than half way up the wrong one". And when I was offered to move to the Finance department at work, I told them not to tell me what the salary would be as I didn't want it to affect my descision! I decided not to take the job as I was happy where I was/where I am.. and I knew if they told me the salary and then I went for the job then I was doing it for the money and not being true to myself!
Today me and my Dad were talking about 'where do you see yourself in ten years' and I said.. I don't mind where I am.. as long as I had fun getting there and I didn't sell myself out for the money!
However.. I am now thinking this might be the wrong attitude to be taking! I know I am only 22 and it doesn't matter at the moment that I don't have a career or a mortgage... but one day I will need these things... I guess!

I have chosen a job for money over a job i would love doing at the minute.
I studied animal care and my life is about my pets and caring for animals, but at the min i just cant afford to be doing the work i wish for.
So I am working in the finance dept for a huuuuuge company, and although i enjoy it, and im on alot more money then i though i would be on, ok, so only 16k, but its alot for me!
At the mo, the main thing is to be able to set my self up in life and i need the money to do that!

I'm on the same and I am a receptionist!
I love the job and the position I am in! Ok... so it may not be 'the bottom of the right ladder' but at the moment it's 'the bottom of the ladder I enjoy'!
I just really don't want to sell myself out for the money and then get stuck in a rutt of needing the money and not being able to change things!

Hello Ruby, My outlook on life has always been to be happy, I have never been motivated by money, that will come at some point, I left school at 15 before taking any exams, but I own 2 cottages and have no money worries. so it will all fall into place, be happy, be healthy and be true to yourself, Ray xx

My sister has a masters in criminal physcology, she is now working in b&q, is the main earner in her house hold and she is on less then 10k a year. Her & her partner have a mortgage to pay & 3 kids to raise. So i suppose i to me, the money i earn is bloody good and i count myself very very lucky!
It always helps my fella is a contractor and atm we bring in around 4k each month after tax, and having joint finances, that means i dont have as much to worry about.

Panic Button - The jobs already been filled now but it really wasn't for me! It was a dull job in the finance department and I am REALLY not a finance person! For a start I am not good with numbers but mostly I am a people person and love that everyone stops at my desk for a chat and that I get to meet all the people who come in. If I was stuck in finance I would hate it. But I knew the money was more.. I just didn't want to know an exact figure as I knew it would effect my descision!
Geordie - Don't worry.. she will love it, I am sure and it will help her so much to ahve this life experience! I am so tempted to do it myself but I don't know if I could.. but if I don't do it now while I have no commitments then I don't know if I will ever be able to do it in the future!
Legend - WOW! That is possibly the most sensible thing I have ever heard you say! And I really believe you are right.
