I was driving past a speed camera when I saw 2 flashes of light in my rear view mirror. I think I may get a ticket in the post. Any idea what I can expect next as I've never had a ticket before?
It depends how fast you were going and what the speed limit was. I was flashed doing 36 in a 30 limit and got 3 points and 60 fine. Taking into account that you are allowed 10% plus 2, I was only 1 mph over the limit!
most likely they will write to you with details of the offence and tell you you can accept a 3 point penalty and 60 pound fine, or you can take it to court
how can you take it to court, they will have 2 photos of you speeding, inconclusive proof, you will get a heavier fine and maybe court costs as well, dont be silly, just accept the 60 and 3 pts. and im sorry kathyan.but its rubbish,as i was done, doing 43 in the roadworks on the M1.NOT MUCH OF A ALLOWANCE THERE,WAS THERE.
The ACPO guidelines is 10% + 2 but, when there are cameras such as on M'way road works that rule of thumb goes out the window as its for temporary enforcement and the local authority covering that area can impose what limit they like. In some areas of the country the 10% + 2 rule is a little more generous, you were unfortunately in the wrong place Norman-the-Dog. Your advice is right though, not worth contesting, too much evidence and Ania as you were speeding bite the bullet
There's no need to shout, I'm not deaf. For your information the bloke who told me about the 10% + 2 also told me that his father was caught doing exactly the same speed as I was in the same speed limit and he was let off! Makes you wonder eh?
If you do get a ticket its usually within 2 weeks of the incident, if you havent heard anything by then cjhances are you will be okay. As far as contesting it, you could but what is your arguement against the evidence?? Plus you will get a bigger fine and possibly more points. If you get a ticket just pay it.
