Contract cooling off period?

I am self employed and recently took on an additional project, working for someone else but in self employed capacity.
I signed a contract that stipulated I must repay start-up costs if I stop the project in the first 3 months. I have yet to start the work but I'm not happy with the way in which the scheme works and I need to get out of it.
Is it standard that any contrct has a cooling off period? If so, how long is this? If not, can I be expected to pay these fees ?
Many thanks in advance,
J

I think the cooling off period is just for consumer credit agreements.....otherwise we'd all be signing agreements and then walking away from them.

What start up costs have you incurred if you haven't started the work yet?

Thanks for the reply. They had to run a CRB security check as it's associated with a charity. Other than that it was just a single visit to bring paperwork etc. and spend an hour or so discussing things.
i know I shouldn't have signed but felt a bit pressured and didn't expect to have to walk away within the first 3 months but due to certain aspects not being clearly outlined prior to signing I'm a little unhappy with it now.
You are a business. There is no cooling off period. "Your word is your bond." That is as it is and should be.

Sorry

Sorry

That said, if THEY have breached the contract, you could sue THEM for your losses
