A question to all the sactimonious no smokers. How will you feel when you have to pay more taxes to compensate for the loss in revenue from smokers who are being forced to cut down.

I think members clubs should have been able to make a decision to be smoking or not but then I suppose everywhere would have become a members club. Its a responsible decision but maybe its opening a gateway for a total nanny state where a temperance movement will be next.
The revenue taken by taxes off cigarettes more than pays for smoking and smoking related diseases (pneumonia, chest infections, asthma etc etc) by 8 billion. Phenomenal eh?

beejaybee, of course something gets done about them, thye get arrested, barred, fined etc etc
don't try to make out smokers are being persecuted while others get away with murder.
besides smoing affects a lot more people than the occasional pub fight
they tried prohibition in america in the 30s... didn't work... people made their out illegal booze out of all kinds of stuff... and the people it didn't kill or blind, still got rat-arsed and had fights.
that is exactly what would happen here - hell even i would get the demi-johns out if they banned booze!
point is, aside from banning it, what else can they do?

I enjoy the ban being in place where I am. I also smoke less when I'm out and the hangovers are a bit less powerful. As for people being sanctimonious non smokers, I couldn't agree more. Not only do we pay for the NHS, we also have to breath in the second hand smoke from car fumes and they are a lot worse than the fumes that ciggarettes give off. People should be getting off their high horses about it and give up their petrol addictions, that'll make them live longer for sure. I can smoke when I'm on my bike fine, but I find it hard to breath when I'm stuck behind a bus on it, it's disgusting.
I live in Wales as well beejay,Cardiff. I have to be fair, I have'nt heard any smoker's complaining about the ban at our local. Mind you, there's loads of fag ends on pavements everywhere but better that than having to inhale fag smoke and the whiff of stale ashtrays..phew. I do think smoker's should be given their own place to smoke though. Years ago every pub had a "Smoking Room" sign on the window. I cant understand why that cant be brought back. Same applies to eating places etc. A room for smokers only.
