I think we were a bit over 10 but certainly not much. You can pay in euros, egyptian pounds, dollars or sterling i am sure. If i remember rightly though you only had to buy if you were going to certain areas. We were staying in Sharm el Sheik but doing a trip to Cairo and Mount Sinai so had to get the visa (think even for some dive areas it is required). Anyway they stick a couple of little stamps on your passport then stamp over them. The had done this incorrectly on one of my friends - she had the info but not done correctly. This was spotted when we were leaving at 2am to travel to cairo by the tour guide. My friend was made to hide in the bus toilet when the guards, with guns came onto check the passports. If she had known this was going to happen she would have stayed back from the trip but was told all will be ok then when journey started advised this is what she should do!! What we were told was if you are unsure if you are going to do a trip then best get the visa anyway as difficult to get later if you change your mind. There was quite a big queue to get them stamped but your bus bound to be waiting on people anyway.
