Who agrees with me that Enya is the total absolute tops bar none, as female Scottish singers go anyway.
Take a listen to "Long Long Journey" and you'll have to agree with me. Doesn't it just raise a wonderful image of Bonnie Prince Charlie ? My scant knowledge of Scotland comes from 'Kidnapped' where Davie Balfour escapes from Glasgow only to get trapped in the Moray Firth. At this time of year I wonder if R L Stevenson ever got out.
Well, I agree completeley that she has a great voice, I just need to point out that she is in fact Irish.....still Celtic so close I guess but definitely not scottish!!
Her brothers/sisters are also in the band Clannad (also Irish!! 8-)
I think she is absolutely gorgeous. Her voice has an utter purity, I can't explain why she reminds me of Scotland, but she does, and that's not such a bad thing is it ? At the moment I am listening to "If I could be where you are". Wow, what a voice !!
Don't know if this will work or not, but if it doesn't, the attached song is by Fairport Convention and is called "Who Knows where the time goes" in our house, it is known as the parents lament - you'll hear why.
Thank you peeps for some lovely replies and links. I have posted about Enya on here before and received some rather unkind replies from insensitive people.
I love Enya!
Have down since i was little and listening to it in my brthers car, definitely the most played on my I pod is paint the sky with stars album, closely followed by Hands of Love by Vittorio (who is just utterly amazing imo!)
My 2 Enya faves are Anywhere Is & The Celts!
I plan to walk down the aisle to The Celts, its a shame my fella hates it and cant stand her lol!
I loved "I Want Tomorrow" (her debut single from way back in 1987). I think she must have had a lot of singing lessons between that and "Watermark" because her voice never had quite that same quality again, it became a lot smoother. I also like "Anywhere Is", that great arrangement that drives it forward but doesn't use any drums, which is a neat trick. Oh, and I don't usually go for tearjerkers, but "Evacuee" is sad and lovely.
