Hi all,

I am after quite a bit of help here.
I am a member of the guides and scouts, and as part of an award i am doing, we have to visit a place, and explort that area, based on a theme. After much fussing around, we have finally got our accomodation sorted. We are going to be staying in Bognor Regis. All we need to do now is to sort the theme out. I have written to the tourist info and not got much info back. Wondered if there was anyone on here, that lives/d in the area, or knows the area. That could maybe help me out and give me ideas on themes.
Thanks

From the BBC website :
George V loved Bognor Regis - his recuperation there restored his health. Bognor lays claim to being the sunniest town in Britain and holds the Birdman of Bognor contest every summer.
From other sources:
There used to be a Butlins holiday camp there, H from Steps was a Redcoat there.
Do a redcoat theme - lots of excuses to have fun then!! Find out the histrory of redcoats and then look at all the 'famous' people who have gone from red coat to stardom?? You theme could be - redcoat to stardom!!!!

Im being silly maybe, but hey butlins was a big part of Bognor so use it to your advantage!!!

We looked at doing that, but don't think that there is enough to do / see on this theme. We would need to "study" the area on the theme for 4 days...

Are Bognor and Arundul quite historic? someone told me that they were, but I don't know... can't seem to find much on the net about the history. But thought that it could be a theme worth doing...

very boring is bognor regis. nothing but a cheesy butlins and seafront that looks like brighton, with a load of overpriced take away shops and cheap 80's arcades, and a caravan park the size of london. Go somewhere scenic-theres the lake district, Wales, scotland, the scottish isles, national parks ect ect ect..why u chose bognor is beyond me. Seeing as its now done, a sea theme might be good, explore the stones and rocks in the water, what sea life live underneath them, what sea life live around the waters of bognor, what the quality of water is like, what animals can you see in and aroubd the water, ect ect
I live near Bognor - I'm not from here (mercifully). It's a bit of a dump, but these things spring to mind - the Town council hold the Clown Festival once a year, there's also the Bognor Birdman rally. Other than that, you've had it. Unless you'd like to watch chavs cavorting in the rain for a few days......

As for themes - single parenthood, no employment, Tesco, tourist trap, kiss-me-quick holidays, Butlins and MacDonalds.

Best head off to Arundel (nice big castle, wildlife and wetlands trust, river walks), Chichester (Festival Theatre, Jazz festival, nice Georgian buildings), Littlehampton (Sea centre, funfair, newly developed river area and marina), Singleton (Weald and Downland Open Air Museum -old buildings, farm stuff). West Dean (lovely old house and fantastic walled garden), the South Downs (sheep, grass and more sheep). You'll have much more fun.........

Where in Bognor are you actually going to be?
