Identifying grub found in garden

I wonder if anyone can help me to identify some grubs/larvae I found in a pot in my garden - they are about 1-1 1/2 " long, fat and an opaque whitish colour with a slight rainbow sheen and quickly burrowed back down into the soil when put on top of the pot. Are these going to grow into something nice or nasty? Thanks

1 inch long? YUCK!!! I was going to suggest Vine Weevil larvae but they are smaller.

I have come across similar in hanging baskests and was given the impression that they were bees!! Im wondering if this is right??

Suzecd8, if they have a slight brown tinge to the 'head' I always understood that these were the larva of the Stag Beetle. At least that's what my Grandfather told me many, many, many years ago...
I have always let them be and had no nasty suprises.
If they turn in to man (or woman) eating monsters or turn out to be alien pods which take over our bodies, it was not me that sent you this message and I have never heard of the Answerbank! Good luck.
